In 2018 Eos World Fund’s Directors attended Sundance, Cannes and AFI.  Nina Menkes presented her SEX & POWER: The Visual Language of Oppression at all three festivals.

Nina Menkes highlighted how women are visually portrayed in films starting with our most revered American directors like Martin Scorsese, Orson Welles, and Spike Lee.  

By analyzing shot design and cinematic sequences, Menkes demonstrates how three generations of filmmakers have undermined the authority and power of women on screen and behind the camera.

How filmmakers approach portraying female characters on screen is vital to changing a visual culture of oppression pervasive in the entertainment industry around the world.
